Facial Skeletal Imbalance

Over the past 21 years I have been fortunate to meet some of the greatest minds in the dental field. One of my early enlightenments was to recognize that most orthodontic problems are the result of skeletal imbalances within the face. Some are very obvious like the Prince Charles overbite, and the Jay Leno underbite. Although underbites represent only 5% of the orthodontic patients I treat, they are perhaps the most challenging. Many of the underbites are easily treated at the age of 5 and are only surgically treated at the age of 30. Most, if not all, underbites are the result of a deficient maxilla (upper jaw). This is very easily corrected at the age of 4 – 8 with a removable retainer that orthopedically develops or makes the upper jaw bigger. Left untreated the lower jaw will only be successfully treated with surgery in adulthood. I have successfully treated over 100 cases with remarkable results.

If you or someone you love has a facial skeletal imbalance, (overbite or underbite) please contact our office for a complimentary consultation.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Dagostino, D.D.S.
