TMJ Dysfunction

Dear Patients,

The temporomandibular joint is the most intricate joint in the body.  The lower jaw requires the cooperation of seven muscles on each side of the jaw to open and close the mandible (lower jaw).  Because of its intricate nature, this joint is highly susceptible to trauma.  It is also susceptible to dislocation.  This joint can also undergo degenerative changes when patients have skeletal imbalances (i.e. overbites).  TMJ dysfunction can occur in children as young as 6.  It is extremely prevalent in females between the ages of 25 – 45, and is characterized by many different symptoms.  Some patients get joint pain or clicking and popping in their TMJ, where others may experience headaches and/or ear ringing or ear pain.

Should you or someone you love have TMJ problems, please call our office for a no charge consultation.
