I have heard from countless patients over the years how painful a past root canal performed by another clinician was. In our office were routinely use a special injection technique known as intraosseous or the x-tip. This technique involves making a portal of entry into the bone next to the affected tooth. This allows a copious amount of anesthetic to be deposited next to the tooth providing profound anesthesia. Many times teeth requiring root canal therapy are grossly abscessed which prevents the traditional anesthetic techniques from being effective. Amazingly, this technique has been utilized by the dental profession for over 25 years, is now being utilized by physicians and nurses to gain access to the general circulation of pediatric patients as well as patients with compromised vessels. This allows doctors and nurses to administer drugs without an IV access.
