Tourettes Syndrome

Dear Patients,

“We almost always, almost win!” ~ Joshua Cribbs

Recently, I presented at a seminar in Dallas attended by doctors from around the world. One prominent doctor from England, Dr. Andre Hedger presented a lecture on Tourette’s syndrome. I have been exposed to other doctors who feel this disease is brought on or exacerbated by Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). Dr. Hedges showed 8 children who had been diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome, who he treated and was able to completely eliminate the tics and vocal outbursts. He treated these children with the same techniques I use to treat juvenile TMD. The course of treatment involves oral appliances followed by braces. The etiology (cause) of this syndrome is the entrapment of important vascular and neurologic structures which course through the back of the jaw joint. By repositioning the lower jaw, it is possible to allow neurologic integrity to resume.

Should you know someone with Tourette’s syndrome, please contact our office at your convenience to schedule a complimentary evaluation.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Dagostino, DDS
